Why it Matters?
Daimler substantially narrowed general jurisdiction, eliminating the argument that substantial in-state business subjects a corporation to suit on unrelated claims, which is a defense that did not exist before 2014. Registration to do business as consent to general jurisdiction survived in Mallory for states whose statutes expressly so provide, which is a meaningful carve-out worth checking in Pennsylvania and any state adopting similar language.
