Production
A redaction log lists each redacted document by production number with the reason for redaction, such as privilege, personal identifiers, or material outside the scope of discovery.
It functions similarly to a privilege log for withheld content within produced documents.

Why it Matters?
Redaction logs are required less consistently than privilege logs but requested increasingly, since redactions without explanation are indistinguishable from unjustified withholding. Relevance redactions in particular draw challenges, because most courts hold a party may not unilaterally redact non-privileged content from an otherwise responsive document. A log stating the basis for each redaction makes the dispute narrow rather than global.
