Why it Matters?
Relationships are what convert a list of entities into a usable picture of a case. Knowing that a document mentions a physician and a date is less useful than knowing that this physician treated this plaintiff on that date for that complaint. In corporate defense the ownership and control relationships extracted from documents frequently determine which entities belong in the case, which is otherwise slow manual work.
