Written Discovery
Objections must state the grounds with specificity and, under Rule 34, indicate whether responsive material is being withheld. Common grounds include relevance, proportionality, privilege, vagueness, and undue burden.
Failure to object timely generally waives the objection.

Why it Matters?
Timeliness is the threshold, since objections not raised within the response period are waived absent good cause, which makes an extension request preferable to a late response. Specificity is the second requirement and where most objections fail, because a general assertion of burden without explanation does not preserve anything. Both requirements are enforced more strictly since the 2015 amendments.
