Native production delivers the original file as it existed, retaining all functionality and embedded information. Files are typically accompanied by a load file and a slip sheet bearing the production number.
Redacted documents generally cannot be produced natively without altering the file.

Why it Matters?
Native production preserves what images destroy, particularly spreadsheet formulas, hidden rows and columns, tracked changes, and speaker notes. The complication is Bates numbering, since native files cannot carry endorsements on their face, which is why slip sheets and load file references are used instead. Redaction is the other constraint, since redacting a native file requires altering it, so redacted documents are usually produced as images.
